2d & 3d Measurement
RIB CostX is an industry‑leading 2D and 3D take‑off and estimating platform that enables rapid, accurate measurement directly from drawings or BIM models. It streamlines quantification, reduces manual errors, and provides fully auditable cost plans and BOQs, making it a trusted tool across the construction and cost management sectors.
CostX can import full 3D building models in both Revit and IFC formats, allowing quantities to be extracted directly from the model for fast, accurate and fully traceable measurement.
Structural steelwork quantities can be extracted directly from the 3D model, with member sizes, lengths and weights generated from the model’s object properties to ensure precise and fully auditable take‑off.
Large building elements such as floor slabs and ceiling zones can be isolated within the model, with their areas and associated quantity data extracted and live‑linked directly into the Bills of Quantities for fully coordinated measurement.
CostX provides powerful tools for working with 2D drawings. In this example, a site drainage plan is measured using custom quantities and user‑defined variables applied to linear elements.
For drainage runs, depth categories can be automatically calculated and split in accordance with Standard Methods of Measurement, ensuring accurate and fully auditable take‑off.
Quantities measured from 2D drawings can have height data applied during take‑off, enabling CostX to generate a 3D visual representation of elements such as walls.
This provides a clear visualisation of the measured works, which is invaluable for client presentations and for evidencing the basis of any measurement or variation.
All measured items can be live‑linked to the project workbook, where Bills of Quantities descriptions and pricing are developed.
Because the workbook is directly connected to the measured data, any revisions to the take‑off automatically update the BOQ quantities and associated rates, ensuring full coordination and instant recalculation

This allows every report to be tailored to a client’s preferred structure, branding, and level of detail, with options to embed client logos directly into the document. Completed Bills can be exported to PDF, Excel, CITE, and numerous other industry‑standard formats, ensuring seamless integration with downstream workflows and commercial reporting requirements.
